There are several public university options in the Triangle. North Carolina State University (NCSU) makes its home in Raleigh. North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is located in Durham. The region also offers multiple campuses of the University of North Carolina (UNC), including the main campus, UNC - Chapel Hill.

Area private colleges and universities include Shaw University, Duke University, Meredith College, Peace College, and St. Augustine's College.
